Saints and Soldiers

I just watched this movie last night and was thoroughly impressed with it and reccomend it to be watched.

The Plot line, which is based on Actual Events:
Five American soldiers fighting in Europe during World War II struggle to return to Allied territory after being separted from U.S. forces during the historic Malmedy Massacre.
Why I liked it? Aside from the fact it won 7 best picture awards at 7 different film festivals. It's not simply a war movie in step with the Saving Private Ryan type but it actually takes a more in depth and personal look at each of the soldiers. It has a very powerful and emotional touch that tugs at your heart. And unlike most war movies where you typically want to watch fight scenes you root for these guys to avoid them because you want them to live. What I particlarly enjoyed was the character Deacon's interactions with the Medic Steven Gould. Deacon was a missionary in Berlin before the war and has faith in God which irritates Gould who believes the war has proven there is no God. Their talks and deepening friendship amdist the suffering of war makes the movie well worth the watch, especially with the emotional payoff at the end. It is a great story of love amongst the atrocities of war.
I am probably going to end of buying the movie.

For all of those who dont like War movies....meaning all you women out there. : )
There is no gratuitous violent or bloody scenes. There are battle scenes but no real blood and guts. The movie is PG-13. The director and producers wanted to make it watchable for families. So that will put you at ease and gives no one an excuse to watch one of the years best movies.

I find war movies also inspiring for that reason. It's kind of like an analogy of the Christian life. I am reading this while in geometry so I won't go into anymore detail don't want to get in trouble.

Geometry class in college and with a computer at your desk? Sounds fishy to me. So did you get into trouble? Thats always a fun thing to get into.

I find the stereotype that females do not enjoy "fighting movies" or "bloody movies" quite humorous. If you compare a physical confrontation between 2 women and a physical confrontation between 2 men you will find the women to be much more vicious and "bloody". But what I find even more humorous is the fact that you appear to be extremely introspective knowledgeable of the sexes and yet you place that stereotype on women as well.

wow...what a good comment! : )
I do believe your correct when it comes to physical confrontation.
Last March I was on a group trip in Puerto Rico and on the last night we got out some boxing gloves just to have some fun and after a couple of rounds of guy vs. guy, two girls sparred and the bout was quite vicious...resulting in the first knockdown of the night!
So I agree that women, when being physical, can be more vicious.
But enjoying a war movie is different than personally taking part in violence.
I don't know if what I said was a stereotype but more of a generalization. There is a slight difference between the two.
Stereotype is more negative, an oversimplified opinion or bias.
A generalization stems more from reasoning from detailed facts or ideas to general principles.

And in my short but my experienced life of wandering around Blockbuster I have yet to be with a woman who picked out a war movie.
So the intention of my post was to encourage the reader to get past the "war movie" personification and to be interested in the movie for its comment on morality and comradery amdist an arduous environment.
But glad you found it humorous.
: )
I might post some pictures from that boxing night now!

Me thinks that was a woman who posted that anonymous comment so all you should have said, Jordan, was "Go make me a sammich!" ;)

hahah no I didn't get in trouble, but we have computers so that we can learn our geometry software...why an early ed major has to learn this software or study geometry in the first place...I don't know. But making shapes is kinda of fun.

Mrs. Anonymous...I am really curious about this quote: "you appear to be extremely introspective knowledgeable of the sexes"
what exactly has it been that I have written that has led you to believe this....not that I am disagreeing

Mr. Jordan...due to limited time I do not have specifics for you. Whereas most blogs typically appear very shallow and perpetuate facade, from what I have seen of you, you have refreshingly unique and authentic perspectves of life in general.
My commment was based on the combination of blog entries I have read, not on a specific entry.

I had to chuckle as I read it though..."Mr. Jordan"

I'm curious what you mean by "perpetuate facade", Mrs(?) Anona-moose. Personally, the blogs I have encountered (even the random ones) have seemed rather honest and I've never come away with the feeling that the person is putting on a front. The person's perspective on life may not always be the most insightful but I've always come away with the impression that the person is at least reporting on how they view life.

That's ok. I don't really like sammiches anyways. :)

Mr. Jordan... you are welcome for the compliment I feel it was well deserved. I do enjoy watching war movies. I find many to be a very humbling experience and at times very honoring, especially when I think of those that I love that are overseas now with the miltary. There are few films that bring to mind true herosim like many of the war films I have seen.
Many of the men in my family have served/are serving in various branches of the military. They have a passion to serve this country and the Lord much like you have a passion to serve the Lord and those you come in contact with.

Ms. Anonymous: Oh, definitely keep up the random blog searching. I personally love to do that, particulary when I find a blog that I will enjoy following in the future. I suppose it also seems strange to me that a person would even create a blog and put forth the effort to update it unless they were planning on bearing a personal part of themselves.
